Back on the current wave of cultural diversity in Hollywood. In 2003, we got both Jet Li and DMX to headline an modest budgeted actioner starting a big supporting cast from a diverse background. We get the black belts in the likes of Kelly Hu and Mark Dacascos kicking ass as handsome villains and comic relief from Anthony Anderson, sex appeal from Gabriel Union and surprisingly the only white presence as the joker in Tom Arnold. Politically correct or not, the film shows that cultural diversity exists and can be a decent box office draw. With that being said, the film is half baked as most times, filmed in a frantic pace, the fights are cut shorter than expressed in full and the script is more reliant of a past rehash of everything we have just seen before or prior. Still, it’s probably DMX better days in cinema before it all went downhill and it’s always cool to witness Jet Li taking on real life UFC fighters without breaking a sweat. Not the kind of film you will see produced today.
I rated it 2.5/5
