legend of tarzan

The latest Disney jungle hero adaptation is wildly entertaining, vastly unbelievable and ultimately satisfying both visually and physically. The film underlines the impact of white oppression, ideals of slavery, morality of invasion and the loss of nature and innocence during the 18th century colonisation of Africa. The fights are suitably intense, brutally shot with the Gorilla fight with Tarzan especially captivating. Alexander Skarsgard provides good physical presence, but lacks character and conviction and pales in contrast to the always brilliant villainous turn of Christoph Waltz. Margot Robbie gives the film an edgy heroine. Nonetheless this is an entertaining film that could have been more.

I rate it 3.5 out of 5.
