There are films that are not for everyone and the latest adaptation by Chinese American filmmaker Wayne Wang is precisely that. Acclaimed by the festival circuit, this is really a major sleep fest that generally bores and disappoint from start to finish. One can not stop but wonder how much it is due to the lost in translation of a foreign story in a Japanese setting by a director that does not speak either language. Still, the film is beautiful to look at and the actresses are clearly flower vases to admire. Takashi Kitano is simply amazing and produced a mature performance as a mystery and creepy old man. One for sleeping pill substitution.
I rate it 1.5 out of 5.
