[] The Truman Show (1998) – USA

An all time classic satirical tale about society, media, construction and the human condition, “The Truman Show” is a film that transcends the boundary of time and relevance. Almost 20 years since its release, the film gets better with age as we now embark into a world where everything is being controlled and manipulated on a digital scale never before seen. Jim Carrey gives a career redefining performance as Truman, an ordinary guy who doesn’t know that he has been in the spotlight of a reality show for 30 years where everything around him is essentially fake and not real. There is a line mumbled by the terrific Ed Harris, being the creator of the show, claiming that this world is as real as it gets. We are all shaped by our context, time and surrounding and one critical aspect when humanity is truly lost is when he lost the thirst to question the truth and our very existence. This is by all means a simply executed film that creates a mammoth of an afterthought. We think and go beyond asking why and end up acting upon it. That’s the way we should live and Truman shows exactly why.
